Istanbul Medipol University President Ömer Ceran participated in the ‘Images of the Year’ voting, which includes photographs of the events that marked 2023 through the eyes of Anadolu Agency (AA). Ceran examined 147 photographs taken by AA photojournalists and correspondents at home and abroad and submitted for voting in 5 categories. Ceran chose Aytuğ Can Sencar’s photographs titled “Türkiye Century” in the “News” category, Alper Tüydeş’s “Who’s Here?" in the “Environment-Life” category, and David Alvaro’s “Support for Gaza” in the “Sports” category. Our President voted for Murat Şengül’s “Welcome” photographs in the “Earthquake: Hope” category, which was added specially for this year, and Mustafa Hassona’s “Last Touch to the Brother” photographs in “Gaza: Evidence.”

Ceran made statements to Anadolu Agency Reporter Berfin Kıraç after the voting and stated that Anadolu Agency is the most important news agency of our country. Noting that Anadolu Agency, with its history of more than 100 years, is our country’s pride in receiving news, Ceran said: “Photos taken by Anadolu Agency, a well-established institution, both raise awareness among citizens and provide an important source for social memory. Specifically, the earthquake and the attacks in Gaza in 2023 went down in history as painful events. All the frames submitted for voting are powerful images that were created as a result of great effort. The photographs showing us the human tragedy in Gaza are of great importance. The massacres in Gaza should not fall off the public agenda. In this sense, I appreciate Anadolu Agency for reporting the events impartially and keeping them on the agenda. The photographs taken so that the world can see these facts will be unforgettable for me. I would like to thank the management and employees of Anadolu Agency who contributed to the shooting and presentation of the photographs.”
