PRESIDENT CERAN: OUR MAIN GOAL IS TO TRAIN PEOPLE OF SCIENCE
YKS champions were introduced to the public by President Prof. Ömer Ceran at a press conference held at Istanbul Medipol University South Campus. Speaking at the meeting moderated by Prof. Gökhan Malkoç, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Ceran expressed his satisfaction that Türkiye’s most successful students preferred Medipol for the 9th time. Noting that Istanbul Medipol University is one of the largest foundation universities in Türkiye with approximately 50 thousand students, Prof. Ceran said: “With the support of our Board of Trustees, we not only provide full scholarship to our students who complete the YKS exam in the top ranks, but also provide full scholarships for the second semester of their preparatory education in the USA and offer the right to do internships and be observers at the most prestigious schools in the world such as Harvard and MIT. Our aim with all of this is to train research physicians and scientists. We have started to reap the fruits of this goal. İbrahim Ethem Hamamcı, who ranked first in Türkiye in 2016, graduated from both our medical and computer engineering programs. He is currently continuing his doctoral studies in medical image processing and artificial intelligence at ETH Zurich. Muhammed Furkan Daşdelen, who ranked third in Türkiye in 2017 and graduated from both medical and computer engineering, completed internships at Cambridge and Technical University of Munich and will now begin his doctoral studies in medicine and artificial intelligence in Munich. In addition to İbrahim and Furkan, many of our successful students have the opportunity to work as interns and researchers at the most prestigious universities in the world in a wide geography extending from the USA to Japan, from Germany to Switzerland, from Italy to Spain. We are aiming for new Aziz Sancars to emerge among the graduates joining us today. I congratulate all our students and their families.”

“I AIM TO BECOME A RESEARCH PHYSICIAN”
The 25 students who entered the top 100 in YKS shared their experiences. Sharing the steps that led them to success, the students stated that the vision of Istanbul Medipol University to train scientists was effective in their choices. Speaking at the meeting, Zeynep Naz Çöne, who ranked 1st in YKS, said that she aims to contribute to the health ecosystem of our country as a research physician. Noting that Medipol’s research infrastructure was the main factor in her choice, Çöne stated that her success in YKS was the result of her systematic work. Mustafa Özateş, who ranked 1st in YKS, also drew attention to the value Medipol gives to students and said that Nobel Prize winner in chemistry Prof. Aziz Sancar inspired him.

“I STUDIED FOR 3 MONTHS AND CAME 6TH IN TÜRKİYE”
Furkan Pamukcu, who ranked 6th in Türkiye in YKS verbal score type, said: “I ranked 6th in the verbal score type and chose the School of Communication. While I was continuing my education as a cadet, I started studying for the YKS due to health problems. After three months of preparation, I ranked 6th in Türkiye. In addition to the military discipline I received, the constant support of my family was effective in my success. Families should be understanding and support their children preparing for the exam.”
