Medipol draws attention to ‘White Cane’

In the event organized by Istanbul Medipol University Beyazay Club for the “January 7-14 White Cane Week for the Visually Impaired”, attention was drawn to the difficulties experienced by visually impaired individuals.

Istanbul Medipol University Beyazay Club organized an event for the “January 7-14 White Cane Week for the Visually Impaired.” Avcılar District Governor Kemal İnan, Bağcılar Deputy Mayor Cengiz Paccı, Ministry of Family and Social Services Istanbul Deputy Provincial Director Halis Kuralay, and Beyazay Association President Lokman Ayva attended the event held at the South Campus Conference Hall. Prof. İlknur Keskin, Director of Istanbul Medipol University Vocational School of Health Services, delivered the opening speech of the event, which drew attention to the life struggle of disabled individuals. Keskin said that they aim to raise awareness in the lives of visually impaired individuals and to increase understanding and solidarity in society. Noting that the white cane is a reassuring guide in the lives of visually impaired individuals, Keskin added, “White canes should not only be seen as a physical guidance tool. White canes are also a symbol that visually impaired individuals are strong, independent, and contributing to society.” In the panel, visually impaired individuals Çiğdem Dörtköşe Erdik and Banu Büyükçıngıl took the floor and raised awareness. In the event where many students participated, Bağcılar Municipality Palace for the Disabled Team organized a theater performance and visually impaired music teacher Eyüp Sultan Aylar gave a mini concert.
