University Presidents in Türkiye published a joint message for Gaza Islamic University President Sufyan Tayeh who lost his life in the Israeli attack. In the message, Israeli attacks were condemned.
Following the martyrdom of Gaza Islamic University President Prof. Sufyan Tayeh and his family, Presidents of all universities in Türkiye issued a joint statement of condemnation. Sharing the declaration on his social media account, our President Ömer Ceran expressed his condolences and called for sensitivity to all humanity against Israeli attacks.
The following statements were included in the joint condemnation statement:
We, as the Rectors of universities of the Turkish Republic, condemn the tyrannical, barbarous, and inhumane genocide committed before the eyes of the world, which Israel recommenced right after the ceasefire and prisoner swap deal effectuated on November 24, 2023.
Following a humanitarian pause of one week, in the early hours of December 2, 2023, more than a hundred innocent Palestinian brothers and sisters were martyred as a result of the bombing of the Jabalia Refugee Camp, located in the northern Gaza Strip, where vulnerable innocent babies, children, women, and elderly people struggle to survive in difficult conditions for the sake of a hopeful future. Around the same time, Prof. Dr. Sufyan TAYEH, the Rector of Gaza Islamic University, was martyred, together with his children and family members, during an Israeli air strike in the region of Al-Faluja, precisely targeting his house.
We condemn, in the strongest terms, the terrorist attacks that have been targeting civilians and civil institutions, hospitals and educational institutions, educators, academicians, and scientists since 7 October 2023, and we condemn the overt and covert support provided to this brutal aggression; we once again accentuate that the whole world must react and should not remain indifferent to this situation. We wish God's mercy on the late Prof. Dr. Sufyan TAYEH, the Rector of Gaza Islamic University, and his family, and on all those innocent Palestinians who were killed during this brutal process; we express our condolences to all our Palestinian brothers and sisters, and we call on all international actors to act responsibly and humanely to prevent this crime against humanity.
